Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found numerous entertaining creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a protagonist that is literally a dung trying to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Across numerous challenges, encounter boss fights and visit a shop to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one error requires starting over. Bounce using floating orbs to propel yourself higher, traverse disappearing ledges, and interact with switches to reveal secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher levels in which the action ramps up.

Graphically, the demo boasts eye-catching stages and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics of moving basic polygons may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of similar titles where you control a coiled turd, gaming have long included toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, like winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to launch on Steam in the fall.
